Half shorts are what many women pull for when contemplating cycling bottoms. Easier to put on, take off, and no complications from bibs. Assos is reintroducing their basic female half short as the H.laalalaiShorts_s7. La La Lai is ooh la la.
The bottoms feature a simplified panel pattern out of their type.439 fabric to achieve what Assos deems “regularFit.” This means it works with just about every body type without favoring the super-fit. At the same time, the shorts share not only DNA but also elements that elevate the laalalai to the realm of the superior. These include the half-grippers on the legs: they’re on the outside but not the inside so that they hold firm without squeezing. It also includes the waist. Assos has spend lots of time and test samples figuring out how to do a waist better, how to hold the shorts firmly in place without putting unwanted pressure around the midsection. Their solution is a waist that dips in front and raises in back, with a doubled-over and sculpted spandex panel starting on the right side, dipping as it approaches the navel, rising on the left side. Then, on the back, a heavier spandex that is augmented with comfortable, but insistent grippers.
The chamois is a stretchy women’s-specific shape. It features a purple cover, waffled padding underneath, with Assos’ patented goldenGate attachment, where the front and back of the pad are secured to the short, but portions of the sides are not. This allows the thinned side sections of the pad to remain flat against skin while the short legs move when you pedal. Greater comfort, no abrading whatsoever.
As with all Assos bottoms, reflective tape is sewn into the backs of the legs for a little extra safety in low light conditions.
